One of the secrets behind Secret Chain Blend is that it's a mix of 4 unique types of wax and not just paraffin like most other hot wax products. This blend of waxes, along with our proprietary WS2, has kept the Secret Chain Blend on top of the ZeroFrictionCycling charts for the last 3 years. Many competitors have reformulated to get close, but none have been able to beat it.
The 4-wax mix has allowed SILCA to create what we believe is the best overall combination of high performance, dirt resistance, and application longevity. Over the years, as we’ve worked with professional gravel athletes, WorldTour teams, Olympic medalists, and more, we kept getting one recurring request: custom wax formulations for specific events or conditions. Rather than producing an endless number of blends, in early 2024 we began shipping two wax additive kits to our athletes and teams. These kits allowed them to test new formulations tailored to their events and personal experiences.
The challenge in formulating waxes is finding the balance between speed and durability. The fastest, most exotic waxes usually don’t last long per application, while the most durable waxes often sacrifice speed. Instead of trying to make the perfect blend for every situation, we gave the athletes the power to optimize the wax themselves. The results have been incredible—over 100 victories across the WorldTour, Lifetime Grand Prix, the Olympics, and many more!

Internally, we initially called this process “Wax Doping,” but with so much exposure to world-class athletes, we've refined the name to “Wax Optimization.” Introducing SpeedChip and EnduranceChip—wax optimization agents that allow you to blend the perfect wax for your specific needs.
SpeedChip
SpeedChip is a full synthetic wax made from the same exotic base oils used in SILCA Synergetic. It’s the fastest wax ever used in a cycling lubricant, enhanced with three sizes of sub-micron and nanoscale Tungsten Disulfide platelets to further reduce friction and improve anti-wear properties. Testing has shown SpeedChip can improve chain efficiency by up to 0.5% over SILCA Secret Chain Blend Hot Melt. The only trade-off? You’ll need to reapply it more often (see chart for details).
